New Christopher Nolan Movie Will Be Shot With ‘Never-Before-Used’ IMAX Tech

Christopher Nolan’s next movie will utilize a brand-new kind of IMAX technology.

Following the massive critical and financial success of 2023’s Oppenheimer, Nolan is now working on a still, untitled film that will be released in 2026. It will star Matt Damon, who Nolan previously worked with on Oppenheimer and 2014’s Interstellar, and Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Tom Holland.

Per Variety, it has now been announced that Nolan — who is known for making 2000’s Memento, 2006’s The Prestige, 2008’s The Dark Knight, 2010’s Inception, 2017’s Dunkirk, and 2020’s Tenet along with the aforementioned titles —will utilize some brand-new IMAX technology when making his next film.

IMAX CEO Richard Gelond made the announcement during a call with investors and analysts. He said, “I’m pleased to share that Chris will be utilizing new Imax technology in the making of the film — never-before-used equipment that our teams have been developing through this past year.”

What do we know about Christopher Nolan’s next movie?

An official synopsis for Nolan’s next film has not been revealed at this time; however, there’s been no shortage of online rumors regarding what it may be about. While there were previously theories that it could be a vampire horror movie or something in the espionage genre, the latest rumor suggests it could be about aerial helicopter cops, one of whom is older and one of whom is younger.

Holland recently said in an interview with Good Morning America that he was “obviously honored” to be starring in the movie.

“When the opportunity came in, it was the phone call of a lifetime — reminiscent of getting the call about Spider-Man 10 years ago. It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and I’m really, really excited,” he said.

Nolan’s next movie has been given a July 17, 2026, release date from Universal Pictures.
