‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 – Yerin Ha Speaks Out for the First Time About Taking on Female Lead Role as Sophie Baek! | Bridgerton, Netflix, Television, Yerin Ha | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip
Bridgerton is teasing Season 4!
The Netflix series provided a glimpse of Sophie Baek, the female lead of the season, played by Dune: Prophecy actress Yerin Ha, along with an interview for Tudum.
Here’s more about her character: “Sophie Baek has been forced to spend much of her life working as a maid for the most demanding employer in the ton. But the resourceful Sophie always finds a way to persevere through her circumstances — which will drastically change after she disguises herself to attend Violet Bridgerton’s masquerade ball and meets Benedict Bridgerton.”

“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something that she constantly has to overcome. Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict,” Yerin explained amid rehearsals.
There’s this theme with masks that was running throughout all of my audition scenes. When does Sophie put on this mask to cover her emotions? Or vice versa, when does she take it off and when does she soften up? Playing with those [questions] is just really fun,” she added of meeting Benedict at the upcoming masquerade ball.
The Korean actor, who is from Australia, also spoke to Sophie’s Korean surname out of respect for her culture. (The character’s name in the original Julia Quinn book series is Sophie Beckett.)
“A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful,” she explained. “To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit to Jess Brownell, our showrunner.”
The showrunner asked the actress about Korean last names that begin with a B and settled on Baek.
“It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is fit for me, rather than me having to fit a certain mold. It’s amazing what it can do just in a psychological sense. So it means a lot that Jess did that for me,” she added.
And here’s what to expect from Season 4: “The fourth season of Bridgerton turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict (Luke Thompson). Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”
