Tori Spelling Gets Backlash For Son’s School Routine
If there’s one thing that every person on the planet—parent or not—can agree on, it’s that mornings are rough. OK, maybe not. I get that morning people exist. But I’ve never personally met one #conspiracy. Parents definitely know that once you add kids to the mix, mornings get exponentially more difficult. We’re always looking for hacks to get everyone awake, dressed, fed, and out the door faster and more smoothly. Well, recently, Tori Spelling shared one of hers. Only it sparked some intense backlash online that is absolutely not warranted.
On a recent episode of her podcast, “MisSPELLING,” Spelling was joined by ’80s singer Debbie Gibson. During their chat, Spelling revealed that she saves time in the morning sometimes by dressing her 7-year-old son Beau in his school clothes for bed instead of pajamas.
“I’ve gotten so lazy with my youngest one, because there’s so many, that at night I put him in his clothes for the next day,” she said. “So, he has dinner, he takes his bath, but then I’ll be like, ‘Hey, dude. It will save an extra five minutes if we get dressed now and then you can sleep later,’ and I can sleep later, wink wink.”
Gibson assured Spelling that this definitely doesn’t make her a bad mom and it’s “cool” and “funny.” We all do what we need “to get through,” she added.
But over on social media, a different discussion was taking place. Some people were quick to criticize Spelling for her son’s morning routine.
“So in other words he goes to school in clothes looking like he slept in them because he did. Top shelf parenting in how to teach your kid about looking well kept and caring about your appearance,” one person wrote on X.
Another person took the mom shame a step further, writing, “Has anyone thought about calling CPS on her?”
Yeesh, no. This is not something anyone should even be thinking about calling CPS about. The kid is taking a bath, which means he is getting clean, and then putting his clean body into clean clothes and going to bed. And this is all so that he, a 7-year-old, and his mom can have a slightly easier time in the morning. These folks on the internet need to take a really deep breath and go touch some grass immediately. There is not one sign of abuse or neglect here. Not one.
Spelling, who recently separated from her husband of 18 years, Dean McDermott, is simply doing her best to make things work for herself and her family. No mom in the history of the world has ever been perfect, and if this is the worst she’s doing, she’s probably a pretty great mom.
