Katharine McPhee and David Foster have a 2-year-old drumming prodigy for a son

When your parents are American Idol alum Katharine McPhee and literal American musical legend David Foster, well, you’re born with more music in your genes than most people could learn in a lifetime. And this video absolutely proves that to be true. McPhee posted a video to TikTok of her two-year-old son playing drums, and are we sure this kid is only two? Can we check his birth certificate? He’s an actual, literal prodigy — not that that’s a huge surprise, considering who his parents are.

In the video, you can hear drumming in the background as McPhee writes, “My 2-year-old baby is a genius.” She films as she walks through the house, getting closer to the source of the drumming noises. Finally, she enters a room, where you can see proud dad Foster looking on at their two-year-old son, Rennie, seated at a tiny drum set with his name printed on the bass drum. Music is playing, and along with it, Rennie is playing the drums, including solos. He sounds like an absolute professional already.

Rennie plays along with the song, as Foster listens and head-bops along. Go ahead and watch the video, and then watch it about four more times, because I guarantee you’ll want to.

When I was in middle school in my “I’m going to start a rock band” phase, I learned how to play the drums. After a few months of semi-regular attempts and practice, I could play about half as well as Rennie is playing in this video. Yes, you read that right. When I was 13 years old, after months of practice, I could play drums noticeably worse than this two-year-old.

Oh, and I’m now a 33-year-old adult, and I’m pretty sure that two-year-old has better fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination than I do right now.

So, uh, does Rennie have a record deal yet, or what? And if not, what’s the holdup? The kid is clearly destined for the spotlight, just like his famous mom and dad — only he just might outshine them.
